Preparing Your Home for the Summer
We gave you some spring maintenance tips for your home in an earlier post, and now it is summer. It is time to make sure your AC is working, your grill is clean, and your home is in the best shape to deal with the summer heat. Here are some maintenance tips to prepare your home for the summer heat.
Inspect Your HVAC
It is absolutely critical you make sure your HVAC is in good condition. You are advise to change the filters in your HVAC at least once per month. Clean the condenser unit coils and clear the area for best air flow. Turn the thermostat to cool and turn the air down to see if the AC kicks in. Make sure it is putting out adequate air. If it does not turn on at all, check the breakers. If you cannot diagnose the problem, call a professional. Take care of any repairs early before it gets too hot and the service professionals are very busy.
Seal and Caulk
Check your air ducts for leaks and reseal them. You probably need to add five to eight inches to your compacted insulation. Caulk your windows, doors, and weather stripping. Consider solar window film to repel heat.
Check Ceiling Fans
Installing a ceiling fan will allow you to use your AC less and save money on utility bills. Set the blades to revolve counter-clockwise so they mix the hot air above with the cool air below to even out the room’s temperature.
Nature’s AC
Take advantage of summer breezes, nature’s air conditioning. Clean, repair, or replace the screens on your windows and doors. For closing services and title insurance in Atlanta, contact Wharton Law at (404) 965-2767 or check out our website to learn more about the services we provide.
